The Nikon 50mm f1.4 G Nikkor AF-S lens is an ultra-fast prime lens that has a standard 50mm focal length and maximum aperture of f1.4. This is a great lens for a variety of situations but excels at lowlight photography or when shallow depth of field is desired. The lens has a reputation for excellent sharpness from edge to edge, as well as great contrast. It is prized both among still photographers as well as videographers. This lens has a 9-bladed aperture diaphragm that produces super smooth bokeh. It focuses as close as 1.5 feet. It also features both Nikon's SWM (silent wave motor) AF technology as well as SIC (super integrated coating) lens coatings.
This lens is part of Nikon's "G" series lenses, meaning it lacks a mechanical aperture ring. While it still uses a version of the Nikon F lens mount and will mount on older manual focus cameras, there will be no means of adjusting aperture on such cameras. This lens is best suited for later autofocus Nikon SLR cameras that allow aperture to be controlled via camera body.
